The recent operation to rescue 120 whales stranded along the Panadura beach further boosted the image of the country worldwide, adding a plus mark for Sri Lanka Tourism, stated Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO). Sailors from the Navy and the coastguard along with local volunteers had managed to coax about 120 whales to go back to the sea.
The rescue operation was given wide publicity in the international media and is sure to build a positive image of Sri Lankan citizens who play a vital role in Sri Lanka Tourism. This creates confidence among tourists to travel to Sri Lanka to experience the hospitality in the country; during an era where travellers are still uncertain if it is safe to travel to a country amidst the COVID-19 epidemic spread, highlighted SLAITO.
Whale watching is a popular tourist activity in Sri Lanka and seems to have a growing demand over the last few years. Thus it is believed the incident was quite an eye opener to get the attention back on Sri Lanka Tourism; especially from whale watchers and seafarers.
