In Sri Lanka, we are seeing an increase in wildlife in the national parks due to the lockdown. Sri Lanka Tourism has been broadcasting live from our wildlife parks on YouTube and we have been busy observing the wildlife around our property.

W15 Hanthana Estate near Kandy is a heaven for wildlife. We see barking deer, 12 endemic birds and many butterflies and dragonflies on a regular basis. When we started to see a yellow version of the “Sri Lankan Hanging Parrot” (normally green) we got excited and went to Professor Sarath Kotagama, Head of Academia, Department of Zoology, University of Colombo to get confirmation that this is the first recorded sighting and it is in fact a “Lutino”.
