Sri Lanka Tourism has been recognized for its innovative “Bio Bubble” concept by the International Trade Tourismus-Börse Berlin (ITB) which is one of the largest trade shows in the world. This year, the trade fair took place on a virtual platform from the 9th – 12th of March, where over 3500 exhibitors showcased their tourism related products and services.
Sri Lanka was featured on the ITB Berlin e-Magazine and web portal which highlighted the nation’s innovative implementation of the “bio bubble”. The magazine went on to state that “whilst other countries were puzzled over quarantine, closed boarders and limited visits, the introduction of the novel concept has encouraged tourist travels to Sri Lanka, in a safe and secure mechanism”.
ITB Berlin being one of the largest trade shows in the world, aims to highlight a gamut of tourism related establishments and businesses from across the world. The entire industry was represented at the fair ranging from tourist boards, tour operators, system providers, airlines, public relations agencies, and advertising agencies. Sri Lanka, this year participated at the fair on its virtual platform “ITB Berlin NOW 2021” with some of the Sri Lankas’ key industry stakeholders.
The German tourist arrivals since the reopening of the airports in January to March of this year are indicative of the third highest contributor to visitor arrivals in the country. Consequently, the recognition and acknowledgement of Sri Lanka Tourisms’ strategic approach in Berlin will be a massive confidence booster in establishing Sri Lanka as a safe and secure yet beautiful destination; with much diversity, authenticity and serenity to be experienced by the visitors in the new normal travel.
