Safety will be our topmost concern when we can travel again. However, with a constant change in COVID-19 cases, it may be challenging to track which countries are safe to visit. To enable travellers to identify these countries, the World Travel and Tourism Council is now certifying countries with a ‘Safe Travels’ stamp. 

How are countries certified ‘safe’?

Countries that have opened borders or are ready to open are eligible for the Safe Travels stamp once they have adopted the global standardised health and hygiene protocols based on the guidelines by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It encompasses sectors such as hotels, restaurants, airlines, cruise lines, tour operators, attractions and parks, airports, outdoor shopping, transportation companies and more. So far, 30 countries have made it to the list, Sri Lanka and Rwanda being the most recent. Here’s the full list:
