The Ministry of Tourism says 3,820 tourists have arrived in the island since reopening the country, after airports were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The highest number of arrivals among the group was recorded from Ukraine with 1,374 tourists arriving in Sri Lanka.

526 tourists arrived from Kazakhstan while 443 arrived from India.

The details were revealed during a discussion held under the patronage of Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga to discuss the progress of the process to reopen the country to tourists.

It was also revealed that five Middle Eastern airlines had also decided to commence direct flights to Sri Lanka.

The Tourism Minister issued directives to officials to commence a global promotional programme promptly to attract more tourists. (News Radio)
