The Urban Development Authority (UDA) has started a development project around Lake Gregory Nuwara Eliya ahead of April’s tourist seasons which will see a major overhaul of the facilities available to tourists as well as a clean-up of the area.
These will be including walking paths, boat services as well as improving the sea plane landing facilities on the lake.
The development plan is taking place in five phases and much of the work has been completed, UDA officials said.
“We will strictly stick to the ‘No building zone’ policy in the area and even vendors will have to comply by putting up temporary stalls using environmental friendly material as we want to completely eliminate the use of plastic,” a UDA official said.
